Font Color Shortcut Word Mac

Judy Port wants to change the text color in desktop icon captions. Microsoft doesn't provide that option, but there's a trick to turning the default white text to black. Use a mouse to assign or remove a keyboard shortcut Go to File Options Customize Ribbon. At the bottom of the Customize the Ribbon and keyboard shortcuts pane, select Customize. In the Save changes in box, select the current document name or template that you want to save the keyboard shortcut changes in. The keyboard will be switched and an appropriate font will be selected within the application. A flag icon corresponding to the keyboard will be displayed on the upper right. To switch back to the standard U.S. Keyboard or to some other keyboard, click on the flag icon on the upper right and select a keyboard from the dropdown menu. In Microsoft Word 2016, you can change the keyboard shortcuts. A keyboard shortcut is a combination of keys that you press to give a command. For example, pressing Ctrl+P opens the Print window; pressing Ctrl+S gives the Save command. If you don’t like a keyboard shortcut in Word, you can change it and invent a keyboard shortcut of your own.

This page is related to changing font attributes in Microsoft Word. For fonts in HTML, see: How to change the font type, size, and color on a web page.

In Microsoft Word, a user can change the properties of any text including font type, size, color, and making it bold, italic or underlined. The following illustration shows the Format bar, and a description of the tools it contains.

Tip

In Word 2003 or earlier, if you do not see this bar when you open Word, click View, then Toolbars, and make sure Formatting has a check next to it.

The font settings placement changed after Word 2003, with all the settings in the Font section on the Home tab of the Ribbon. An example of the font settings in Word 2016 is pictured below.

Changing font type

To change the font type within a Microsoft Word document, follow the steps below.

  1. Highlight the text you want to change.
  2. Click the down arrow next to the font field on the format bar or Ribbon. (If you want to change the font to bold, italic, or underlined, click the B, I, or U on the format bar.)
  3. After clicking the down arrow for the font, you can select from each of the installed fonts on your computer. Click the font you want to use and the highlighted text changes.
Note

If you do not highlight any text, the font type changes as soon as you type new text.

Changing font size

To change the font size within Microsoft Word, follow the steps below.

  1. Highlight the text you want to change.
  2. Click the down arrow next to the size box on the format bar or Ribbon. Often, the default size is 12, as shown in the above example.
  3. After clicking the down arrow for the size, you'll have a selection of different sizes to choose. Some fonts may not scale properly, so they may have limited size options.
Note

If you do not highlight any text, the font size changes as soon as you type new text.

Changing font color

To change the font color, follow the steps below.

  1. Highlight the text you want to change.
  2. Click the down arrow next to the color icon on the format bar or Ribbon. It is usually displayed as the letter 'A' with a red underline, as shown in the example above.
  3. After clicking the down arrow for the color, select the color you want to make the text.
Note

If you do not highlight any text, the font color changes as soon as you type new text.
